Paul Cannon is an attorney practicing in Houston, Texas, who is tired of having to leave the State, along with billions in taxable dollars, to enjoy a day at a casino.  Texas is the laughingstock of the poker world.  There is a poker game named after this State that decides the world championship but it is illegal for someone to run the game for profit here.  It's legal to hold a golf tournament for prize money.  It's legal to hold a tennis tournament or a horse race for prize money, but God forbid you attempt to hold a Texas Hold'em tournament in Texas!  

    Look around.  Every major city in this state is full of illegally run poker rooms, video machine lounges and gambling halls.  The people obviously want to be free to gamble.  It is happening regardless of the law.  Outlawing gambling for profit does not stop it, it simply moves in behind closed doors and down alleys where the law...and the tax man, do not reach.  If it is going to happen on a large scale anyway, shouldn't the State benefit from it?  The beauty of gambling is that you can impose a vice tax on it just like alcohol or cigarettes...only the revenues would be much, much higher.
